UAV FOR LANDPARCELS SURVEY AND MAPPING
Introduction
Modeling using satellite imagery however has been identified as a significant approach for tracing larger parcels, such as farmland or forest plots. Earth observation satellites have a much large field of view than manned aerial imagery and much higher temporal resolutions, with performing frequent revisits during that same area on earth.
Besides large regions, manned airborne surveys have been the accepted standard, with high-quality metric cameras and imagers used to obtain imagery with help of survey and cartography projects, such as parcel mapping.
UAV Survey and Mapping Platforms for Parcel Mapping
UAVs for parcel mapping are often a remedy to more conventional methods such as crewed airborne and satellite mapping systems.
UAV platforms are mainly categorized into four.
- Multi-Rotor UAVs
- Fixed Wing UAVs
- Single Rotor platforms
- Fixed Wing Hybrid platforms.
The spatial resolution of captured satellite imagery is improving due to the fast expansion of remote sensing technologies. More spectrum of surface topography can be acquired from high-resolution image captured using low-altitude remote sensing technique, and also the spectral variation of related surface features becomes vast while that of different geographical characteristics of land is reduced.
Real-Time Network RTK (RTN) surveying was being introduced to overcome the drawback of the base-to-rover range. Variations in linear and area measurements will result from the varying accuracy level of parcel corner and edge waypoints acquired from satellite imagery or DGPS.
Enhanced Deliverables
- 3D point clouds and 3D building models
- DEM/DSM
- Orthophotographs
- High-resolution imagery for asset inspection.
Applications
UAV sensors and systems are most often used in different mapping applications, such as agriculture, forest management, archaeology and construction, disaster response, search and rescue, and military surveillance.
- GIS-based mapping and data Acquisition
- Mining and Pit operations
- Railway Corridor, Roads, and Powerline monitoring
- Pipeline survey
- Disaster management
The development of survey and mapping inside the commercial UAV sector is being influenced by a series of aspects, the most notable of which is that UAV platforms have been proved to be capable of providing high-quality data that fulfill the standards for large-scale parcel mapping.
