Aerodrome Mapping Database
SATPALDA is a leading provider of commercial high-resolution earth observation and advanced geospatial solutions. As part of our specialised services, we have produced an AMDB (Aerodrome Mapping Database). AMDB is a highly accurate and precise database based on international standards. Data is captured from high resolution stereo pairs using Photogrammetry software and later attributed in GIS platform. It includes all features covered in an AMDB for Aerodrome surface movement and its surroundings.
The database is fully temporal, that means it is able to handle the current variant of the information together with the past and future versions and display a complete account of all varieties. ESRI Shapefile format are used as AMDB import and export formats. The ESRI Shapefile format is a popular GIS format used for AMDB generation, editing, processing and visualization.

The SATPALDA team has extracted 21 distinct feature sets of AMDB, some of them are highlighted above- Aerodrome Reference Point, Vertical Point Structure, Taxiway Guidance Line, Apron Element, Blastpad, AM Hotspot, Parking Stand Area, Runway Element, Runway Marking, Runway Shoulder, Service Road, Taxiway Element, Vertical Polygon Structure.
SATPALDA follows international standards.

- European Organization for Civil Aviation Equipment (EUROCAE)
- International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standard and Recommended Practices (SARPs)
About AMDB
An AMDB is a spatial database of an airport. An AMDB dataset represents the spatial layout of an aerodrome in terms of features (e.g. Runways, taxiways, and parking stands) with the geometry described as points, lines or polygons and width properties (e.g. Surface type) providing further information. AMDBs are produced and exchanged as datasets using global standards and tools of mainstream Geographic Information System (GIS) technology.

The aim of the AMDB is to establish airport features in a digital format for pilots to navigate around the airport and also for air traffic controllers. Maps, charts, elevation models are all requirements for dependable and efficient air transportation. Multiple user classes can gain from utilizing this database, including pilots, air traffic controllers, aerodrome managers and aerodrome security personnel. AMDB is used in the following:
- Runway operations.
- Emergency and security service management.
- Surveillance and runway incursion detection and alerting.
- Aerodrome surface guidance and navigation.
- Aerodrome facility and asset management.
- Route and hold-short display and deviation detection and alerting.
- Chart information.
- Display and digital ATIS information.
- Aerodrome and airline resource management.
- Training (flight simulation).
- Notice to Airman (NOTAM) and aeronautical data overlays.
- Synthetic vision.
Summary:
SATPALDA produces an AMDB which includes 21 distinct extracted feature sets of AMDB. AMDB is a spatial database of an airport, which has multipurpose use. The primary use of AMDB is in Low visibility, as meteorological conditions deteriorate visibility, it may then become necessary to establish low visibility procedures on the airfield.
